Disney, DMB Development and special guests mark important milestone
Additional U.S. locations under exploration; all will cater to those looking to write the next chapter of their lives with Disney
BURBANK, Calif. (April 26, 2022) – Today, Disney and DMB Development executives and local community leaders gathered in Rancho Mirage, California, to celebrate work starting on the first Storyliving by Disney community. During the ceremony, Disney shared that sales for Cotino, a Storyliving by Disney community, are expected to begin in early 2023 and the first homes are anticipated to be completed in early 2024. Additional locations in the U.S. are under exploration for future development.
The new master-planned community will rise from the brilliant mountain-ringed valley that was once a rejuvenating retreat for Walt and Lillian Disney in the Coachella Valley.
Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Signature Experiences and Claire Bilby, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Signature Experiences Emerging Businesses were joined by City of Rancho Mirage Mayor Charles Townsend and Brent Herrington, CEO of DMB Development, to celebrate this important first milestone. Executives and officials shared remarks about the new community, which will cater to those looking to write the next chapter of their lives with Disney before unveiling a storybook sand sculpture to mark the occasion.
“I am honored that we can bring Cotino to life as the first Storyliving by Disney community in a place that was beloved by Walt Disney himself,” said Mazloum. “These communities will combine the Disney hallmarks of attention to detail, storytelling and guest service to create a place where residents can live the next chapter in their lives to the fullest. We cannot wait to welcome the first residents in 2024.”
“As the mayor and a resident of our community, I know Rancho Mirage is an extraordinary place to call home. Cotino will be an incredible addition and benefit to our community,” said Mayor Townsend. “It is truly special that creative vision for Cotino is based on the rich history of the Coachella Valley.”
Cotino is being developed in collaboration with DMB Development, which is highly regarded for its development of large-scale planned communities in the U.S.
“Everyone involved with this project feels an incredible sense of responsibility. We are developing this new community in a way that provides a breadth of housing options, is sustainable and shows that we have thought deeply and carefully about the area’s culture and history,” said Herrington. “It is our goal to create a community that will benefit not only residents, but also the surrounding region.”
In addition to residential housing, the Cotino community has Specific Plan approval for a mixed-use district which is expected to feature a vibrant range of shopping, dining and entertainment and a hotel.
Per the Specific Plan approval for the development, the Cotino community is also expected to surround an approximately 24-acre grand oasis featuring clear turquoise waters with Crystal Lagoons® technology, enabling crystalline lagoons of any size to be built sustainably, with low water consumption and using a minimum amount of energy.
A voluntary club membership will offer access to a waterfront clubhouse, a club-only beach area and recreational water activities, as well as Disney programming, entertainment and activities. A professionally managed beach park with recreational water activities will be accessible to the public through the purchase of a day pass.
Cotino will welcome homeowners of all ages and will include at least one section expressly for 55+ residents. Home buyers will have a range of home types to choose from, including estates, single family homes and condominiums.
